Good deal for Laughton. He's a solid player for the bottom 6. |
|
|

I like the contract and I'm a big fan of laughton. He is under appreciated for what he brings. When the flyers were I'm their slump laughton was one of the fee players who really stood out and was consistent.
This is a good contract for the flyers |

Having players slotted in their correct roles with veteran help on D and a real 2C gives me much hope for this season , along with an experienced coaching staff. I will go back to making popcorn and watching the micromanagers discuss Laughtons cap hit.. |

Considering I was thinking 2.5, good deal for the Flyers.
I still think they are going to have trouble with the Provorov contract and will have to move a player out to fit him. I think we are going to lose Hagg. |

Has there really been anyone who has a problem with the cap hit? Not that I have seen.

I've gotten several on Twitter, and Facebook... but it's generally the same people who complain about literally everything. It gets tiresome. |

I personally think they should carry 8 defenseman heading into the season. The stand at 13.4M with 11 forwards and 7 defenseman signed. So they need to sign Provorov and Konecny at the bare minimum. I think they're going to be able to get to the point of having about a 1M or so to spare. That's just guessing though at what those two are going to come in at.

There have always been fans who are overly negative and who consider anyone who isn’t to be drinkers of orange Kool-Aid. This season however, it seems particularly bad - an all-time level of saltiness and negativity. |

Oh well, welcome to Fletch's world.
By the way I don't think they deal Hagg to get to 7 defensemen, I would also not mind 8, since injuries happen.
I think they will need to deal Hagg because they will need the cap space to get IP and TK signed.
I hope I'm wrong. In fact I want to be very wrong. |

Things you hope to see in preseason or things you hope the coaches do in preseason...
Thoughts?
I hope that whatever idea they have for PP2, that those guys get lots of time in preseason. Use it as the first unit for the first half of preseason so they can get chemistry going.
I hope Patrick plays almost every preseason game. There are no slow starts.
I want a kid to surprise me.

I might be wrong on this, but it seems to me that for the last two or three years, the Flyers have had at least one or two defensemen go down with injury late in camp or right at the start of the season. With that in mind I'd not be in any hurry to whittle down the D corps assuming the cap isnt an issue. After Konecny and Provorov sign, the cap *might* be an issue. |

I never liked the idea of having to deal a young player because you traded for an older player with one year left on a deal.

My only concern is cap space. If they find a way to carry all 8 I am all for it.

I don’t even think team negative can hate the Laughton deal. I think they will about 1.5 of space when it is all said and done.8 D is a luxury, it appears they will be able to afford that luxury |

Stagy from the Pens was on nhl network. He said he doesn’t think the Pens have any bad contracts, that Tanev is a good contract and just what they needed, the pens will be a contender. I would like to laugh but those guys.
Story he told about tocchet and Kessel, example of their relationship and how without tocchet there was no one there for Phil
Phil and tocchet discussing playing, tocket says you couldn’t play when I played. Phil said o yeah I could. Tocket challenges phil to do 15 pull-ups. Tocket was in a suit, Phil gets the guys together and tocket does 15 in a suit
This was just before game 7 of ECF against the caps, pens won
Always loved tocchet |

I agree. I don’t think we are a cap scared team. I think we are a cap managed team. We are fine for this season.
And I think this is a good enough team that if they come together with the puzzle pieces fitting well and get hot at the right time then they can make a run.

I won't lose sleep over them dealing any player. The Flyers drafted and spent considerable time developing Haag into a legitimate NHL defenseman. This team is not in a position where they should entertain losing young players due to cap issues.

I hear you. What's it going to be?
6 and 4=No problem
7 and 5=Extremely tight
7.5 and 5= Uh-oh!

Serious question, what is the value of a 5-6 D ? Is it a late 1st rounder? Was Hagg a 2nd? My bet is you could get a second and a late round pick for him, from the right team. It is losing on the time they have put into developing him.
They play well this season, the D matures and grows and Hagg is traded, it is probably a sequence of events that works. If they don’t play well and don’t grow, it is a waste of a young asset |

You won't get a 1st in my opinion. If you get a 2nd, I don't think you get anything else with it. Having a cost controlled 3rd pair defenseman that you can rely is one of those players who is more valuable to the team than he is on the trade market. It's even more valuable if you developed him yourself. Remember all the talk over the years about how much the Flyers struggled to develop their own defenseman? Now it seems we're back to not caring about that and wanting to ship some out or don't care if they become a cap casualty. Need to stay out of the trade for and buy market for defenseman. You can never have enough. |

That’s why you don’t fire Hextall just to try to make a move. Hextall was right. It’s bs that he wasn’t allowed at least a few more seasons to see how he would’ve moved team forward after fixing cap and stock piling all these assets |
